Cool Turf That Outlasts the Desert Heat

Updated October 2026

Cool turf isn't just a selling point in a climate that hits 115 degrees. It's a real engineering consideration, and it's one of the first things we address on every artificial turf installation we take on. The synthetic grass we install is selected for heat-dissipating fiber technology, proper infill depth, and drainage capacity so that your yard stays cooler underfoot and drains a monsoon in minutes. InfinityTurf Landscaping LLC holds an STC Certified Installer credential, has a 4.9-star rating across 27 Google reviews, and has completed over 200 documented projects across the Phoenix Valley. Call us before you commit to a product or a bid from anyone else.

What separates a turf job that looks great for six months from one that holds up for fifteen years is the base preparation. We excavate the existing material, address compaction and drainage grade, lay a class-II crushed aggregate base, and compact it in lifts before a single roll of synthetic grass touches the ground. The turf itself is cut and seamed to eliminate visible joins, then secured at the perimeter and cross-nailed through the field. Infill is applied by type and depth to match how the yard will be used, a pet-friendly artificial grass install gets a different infill spec than a front-yard showcase. Scope, square footage, existing ground conditions, and the turf product you select are the main cost drivers. Every job is different, contact InfinityTurf Landscaping LLC for an accurate estimate.

Every Turf Application We Install Turf Application

One crew handles the full scope, from demo through final brush, across every residential turf type.

01

Front Yard Lawn Turf

High-pile, natural-colored synthetic grass shaped to your lot lines, edged clean against pavers or decomposed granite, and finished with a directional brush so it looks freshly groomed every morning without any effort from you.

02

Pet-Friendly Turf

Perforated backing with a crushed-stone sub-base provides rapid vertical drainage. We pair it with an antimicrobial infill that neutralizes odor at the source. Your dog gets grass. You don't get the smell.

03

Poolside and Patio Turf

Chlorine and constant foot traffic are hard on inferior products. We spec UV-stable, non-absorbent fiber that won't bleach, mat, or retain pool water, and we cut it tight to paver edges so the transition reads as intentional.

04

Custom Putting Greens

Low-pile putting turf installed over a precision-graded aggregate base. We can build break into the green by adjusting the sub-grade elevation during prep. You can't add that after the turf goes down.

05

Playground Safety Turf

Thick-pile, high-cushion synthetic grass installed over a compacted and graded base to meet fall-height requirements under play structures. Softer landing, zero mud, and no grass seed that gets worn to bare dirt in two months.

06

Side Yard and Run Areas

Narrow side yards get overlooked but they're often the most used space for dogs and kids. We install turf in tight corridors with the same base prep standards as a full backyard. It's either done right or it fails.

Our Process

How We Install Synthetic Grass Install

The process is the same whether the job is 400 square feet or 4,000. We don't shortcut base prep on small yards.

  1. 01

    Demolition and Site Prep

We remove existing grass, gravel, or hardscape as needed through our demolition services, excavate to grade, and address any drainage issues in the sub-base before we build up. What's under the turf determines how long the turf lasts.

  2. 02

    Base Construction

Class-II crushed aggregate is installed and compacted in lifts to create a stable, permeable base. We check grade and drainage direction at this stage. Not after the turf is down.

  3. 03

    Turf Installation and Infill

Rolls are cut and seamed to eliminate visible joins. Perimeter is secured, field is cross-nailed, and infill is applied by type and depth to spec. We brush the pile on the way out and clean up completely before we leave.

Why Synthetic Grass

What Real Cool Turf Performance Looks Like

poolside and patio turf work, professional service in Phoenix, AZ
A lot of people ask about heat. Synthetic grass does get warmer than natural grass in direct afternoon sun, anyone who tells you otherwise is not being straight with you. What we can do is select fiber types with lower heat retention, ensure proper infill depth to hold cooler temperatures in the grass layer, and position the install relative to shade where the yard allows. A turf yard with afternoon shade from a pergola or wall runs noticeably cooler than an exposed concrete patio. We'll tell you honestly what to expect on your specific yard based on its orientation before anything gets installed. That conversation is free. Beyond heat, the performance argument for synthetic grass in the desert is strong. No irrigation water. No fertilizer. No mowing. HOA-compliant green space that holds its color through summer, winter, and the full monsoon season. The artificial grass installation we complete today looks identical in year ten with nothing but an occasional rinse.

What Drives the Cost of Turf

  1. 01

    Square Footage and Shape

Larger areas cost more in materials and labor. Irregular shapes with curves, cutouts, and obstacles add seaming complexity and material waste.

  2. 02

    Existing Ground Conditions

Caliche hardpan, decomposed granite, concrete, or old turf all require different amounts of demolition and disposal work before base prep begins.

  3. 03

    Turf Product and Infill Spec

Pile height, fiber weight, blade shape, and infill type all affect final cost. Pet-specific and putting-green products carry a higher material cost than standard landscape turf.

Artificial Turf Questions, Answered Straight

How much does artificial turf cost per square foot installed?
Installed synthetic grass in the Phoenix Valley typically ranges from moderate to premium depending on turf product, infill type, and the complexity of the base prep your yard requires. Caliche soil, existing hardscape, and irregular shapes all add to the scope. We don't publish ranges because a number without a site inspection misleads more than it helps. Every job is different, contact InfinityTurf Landscaping LLC for an accurate estimate.
Does artificial turf get too hot to use in Arizona summers?
It gets warmer than natural grass in direct midday sun. That's the honest answer. The fiber type, infill depth, and shade exposure on your specific yard all affect peak surface temperature. Products with heat-dissipating fibers and proper infill run cooler than entry-level options. We spec the turf to the yard's sun exposure and tell you what to expect before installation starts.
What infill do you use for pet areas, and how does drainage work?
Pet yards get an antimicrobial infill product that neutralizes odor at the source rather than masking it. The sub-base is built from crushed aggregate over a perforated or permeable backing so liquids drain vertically through the turf profile immediately, not across the surface. A properly built pet turf system drains as fast or faster than natural grass.
How long does an artificial turf installation take from start to finish?
Most residential installations run one to two days depending on square footage, demolition scope, and site conditions. A straightforward front yard is often a one-day job. A full backyard with demo, base construction, and complex seaming takes two. We give you a timeline before we start and we don't leave mid-job.
Does synthetic grass require any maintenance at all?
Minimal. An occasional rinse with a garden hose handles dust and surface debris. Pet areas benefit from a more regular rinse cadence. The pile can be refreshed with a stiff-bristle broom after heavy foot traffic to keep it upright. No mowing, no fertilizer, no irrigation system required. Some homeowners with irrigation system installation and repair on other areas of their yard simply cap off the zones that used to feed the grass.
What's the difference between artificial turf and the cheap turf sold at home improvement stores?
Primarily fiber weight, backing quality, and UV stabilization. Big-box turf tends to flatten, fade, and separate at seams within two to four years in desert heat conditions. The products we install carry commercial-grade UV inhibitors and are seamed with professional adhesives and nails, not stapled along a border. The sub-base we build under them is the other half of the equation. Turf on bad ground fails regardless of product quality.
Does artificial turf get too hot to walk on during Arizona summers?
It runs warmer than natural grass in direct midday sun. That's the honest answer. Fiber type, infill depth, and shade exposure on your specific yard all affect peak surface temperature. Products with heat-dissipating fibers and proper infill spec run noticeably cooler than entry-level materials. We tell you what to expect on your yard's orientation before installation starts.
What infill material do you use for pet-friendly turf installations?
Pet areas get an antimicrobial infill that neutralizes odor at the fiber level rather than masking it. The sub-base is built from crushed aggregate paired with a perforated backing so liquids drain vertically through the turf profile immediately. A properly constructed pet turf system drains as fast or faster than natural grass and doesn't retain odor between rinses.
How long does a residential synthetic turf installation take?
Most residential installs run one to two days depending on square footage, demolition scope, and site conditions. A straightforward front yard is often a single-day job. A full backyard with extensive demo, full base construction, and complex seaming takes two. We give you an accurate timeline upfront and we don't leave mid-job.
Does synthetic grass require any ongoing maintenance?
Very little. An occasional rinse handles dust and surface debris. Pet areas benefit from a more regular rinse schedule. A stiff-bristle broom restores pile height after heavy foot traffic. No mowing, no fertilizer, and no irrigation required. Homeowners running drip or spray zones for other plants can simply cap off the lines that fed the old grass.
Why has some artificial turf been restricted or banned in certain applications?
Restrictions typically apply to crumb-rubber infill used on athletic fields, not to residential landscape turf. Crumb rubber raises concerns around heavy metals and PFAS compounds in high-contact sports settings. Residential-grade landscape turf with silica sand or cork infill doesn't carry those same regulatory concerns. We'll explain exactly what products and infill types we're specifying for your yard before anything gets ordered.
What is the downside of artificial turf that I should know before committing?
Surface temperature in direct afternoon sun is the most legitimate one in the Arizona climate. It's warmer than natural grass underfoot on 110-degree days. It also doesn't cool the surrounding air the way a plant-based lawn does. Those are real trade-offs. What you get in return is zero water cost, zero mowing, and a yard that looks identical in year twelve as it did on installation day.
